Persistent Thoughts, Arguments & Symbols
May 2, 2009
to May 27, 2009
HENDRICK HUSDON FREE LIBRARY
185 Kings Ferry Road
Montrose NY
914-739-5654
From June 2nd until June 27th. HENDRICK HUSDON FREE LIBRARY at 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, N.Y. presents
"Persistent Thoughts, Arguments & Symbols"
A one-man exhibit of paintings by Peekskill-based artist Edward A. Burke.
An artist's reception will be held on Sunday, June 7th, from 2 - 4 p.m. The exhibit will be open to the public during regular library hours.
The quality and diversity of Burke's artwork in this exhibit, confirms his over forty years of exploration and expertise as a painter, finding new ways to reinvent his personal aesthetic and language. His work employs repetitive symbols and ideas expresed in flat hard-edged, dimensionally rendered forms and demarcated, contour lines creating powerfully provocative images. This commanding narrative asks the germane questions while creating a dialogue that relates to the contemporary issues facing our society.
As Burke explains, "Each painting incorporates many different techniques that express both abstract and representational forms. These techniques and forms are of recognizable images and are held together by a fractionalized and distorted geometry. The intent? To create dynamic and authoritative composition. Many of these objects and forms are repeated, reconfigured and repositioned, manipulating them from one painting to another and forcing the viewer to make clear, erudite comparisons."
Burke's show affords us the opportunity to explore his "Persistent Thoughts, Arguments and Symbols" in relation to the issues of the day. The paintings offer the curious explorer an extensive visual path to travel, ponder and enjoy.
"I hope the viewer finds my paintings thought provoking, provocative and unique in their intent."
Edward A. Burke

NEMRA Annual Conference
New Orleans
212-421-2359
The National Electrical Manufacturers Representatives Association (NEMRA) based in Tarrytown, New York commissioned a painting by Peekskill artist Edward Burke. This painting is to be auctioned off at the association's annual meeting in New Orleans on March 9th 2007. The proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity/New Orleans to assist with the construction of the "Musician's Village".
The "Musician's Village" project encompasses a 300-home community in the city's Upper Ninth Ward, that will provide housing for musicians of modest means, and other New Orleanians who were displaced by Katrina. Due to the significance of music to the life of the city, "Musician's Village" has become a symbol of hope for local residents during the rebuilding process.

A View of Elegant Emotional Stillness
Gallery 25N is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent paintings
by Derek Reist
Mr. Reist presents us with another series of strikingly powerful and emotionally engaging paintings that transform the mundane into a spectacular vision of New York City. The elegant forms and colors in his new work clearly demonstrate his belief in the power of light and shadow to transform the ordinary, and in the ability of fine art to represent this transformation in a way that moves the viewer.
Light to Mr. Reist is not a scientific element to be explored, but an emotional tool to be tested in the laboratory of memory.
