Group Show "The Power of Color 2019"

Artists Statements

Briar Tucker (New Zealand)

Artist Statement:

Colour has the power to change the atmosphere of our emotions. Colour and light are integral elements explored throughout my artwork. I seek to create drawings that employ the dynamic qualities inherently found within various colour and light combinations. Regularly used in conjunction with the subject of water - through its movement and stillness - light and colour are affected; blurring, obscuring and reflecting its environment, giving each work its own unique aura. Whether it is a playful underwater world, or a brooding darkness, I consciously select images which work with these elements in an engaging way, endeavouring to evoke an emotional response to each work of art.

Gary Aagaard (United States)

Artist Statement:

The use of color to move the viewer's eye around the painting is a very important component in my approach to a successful composition. Complimentary colors provide some pop while strategically placing a limited-use color sparingly around the canvas can cause the viewer to explore the entire painting, which is my ultimate goal.

Bonnie Dhein (United States)

Artist Statement:

I have created art thought out my life in different medias but started to focus on painting in 2008. I fell in love with the fact that I was in complete control of how I could manipulate the color on canvas. I strive to create works that are emotional and rhythmic. My goal for each painting is always to keep the viewer engaged and mesmerized with rich color and lavish texture with a bit of a vibrating quality.. People have always been interested in the human form and the stories they tell. My interest is to convey a portrait or figure painting expressively by interrupting my subjects. I do this with an aggressive use of texture through bold colors, mark making and determined brushstrokes. I want to create emotion by directly linking abstract concepts and undefined shapes with tangible subjects. The technical ability and accuracy are a requisite, but are of far less importance to me than the conveyance of my experience and feelings. Willing to be chaotic and exposed, my work is totally open to letting something new emerge even though I have laid in the realistic subject. I am only done when I feel like I have a balance between the raw subject?s refinement of the form the viewer expects, and the interaction of the abstract.. As I am painting I am stripped away from how I imagine the artwork will look when it is finished, and solely paint from within. ?An accurate representation of honey means nothing without the ability to sense or taste it?s flavor or ability to have experience of the bee?s labor in creating the peerless nectar.?

David Feingold (USA)

Artist Statement:

Color emanates from within both the subject and the observer. When they are compatible, an acceptance of the image follows. A tacit agreement that the artist was tuned in to something larger than him or herself.

Allie Giambalvo (US)

Artist Statement:

Art dances in my dreams and thrives in my days, transposing fantasy and fact in a ?confusing-but-fun? sort of way. Since childhood, I have been intrigued by the fantastical world around me. My artwork utilizes vivid colors, botanical vessels, and dream-like imagery to explore the complexity of human emotion, experience, and connection to the natural world.

Jane Gottlieb (USA)

Artist Statement:

I have been expressing my joy of art with paint, shapes and colors since I was very young. I started as a painter, evolved into a photographer, and eventually began hand-painting on my Cibachrome prints over 35 years ago. Before Photoshop I found a way to express a new magical reality with the vivid, saturated and unrealistic colors I painted into each photographic print.. For the past 25 years I have been scanning my one-of-a-kind hand-painted prints and my library of 35mm Kodachrome color transparencies taken over the last 45 years. I love to paint, collage and enhance them with Photoshop, creating my own idyllic world! I produce archival museum quality chromogenic prints, archival glossy canvas artworks, and my favorite new digital medium: archival printing on aluminum.

John Jaster (United States)

Artist Statement:

John works with heavy body acrylics on fairly large canvases with a lot of detail and bold colors. He calls his style 'realistic impressions' because, while the overall feel of the work is definitely realism, he offsets the detail with impressionistic splashes of color. Instead of smooth blending, he likes to use puzzle pieces of color to emphasize the complex relationship of light and shadow over form. John's inspiration comes from the hidden beauty in ordinary objects.

Wayne Marcus (USA)

Artist Statement:

I am always involved in creating. During different phases of my life I have experienced photography, interior design, oil painting, pastel and ink drawing, neon sculpture, and jewelry design. I am a spiritual renaissance man living in Peekskill, New York. Having spent most of my working life, as an entrepreneurial Interior Designer, I love what that practice gave to me. I was able to improve the interior environment of people in their workplace, home, and other public spaces. Add to that my love of people, and the one on one, that I experience as their Psychotherapist; which of course is another more personal form of interior design. My passion now is photographing everything that is meaningful to me from nature, people, objects and places. What prompted that to happen was my leaving the rigors and pace of my daily work routine. This slowing down allowed me to see the beauty that surrounds me. I thirst to document and share those moments with you, and to inspire you. What I want to bring to everyone I come in contact with is for people to look at their everyday experiences, taken for granted, and spend a moment and have a visual or emotional experience with what you see. And in that moment there is an opportunity to imagine your own creation. Within the context of creation there is the joy of just being, and the opportunity of self expression.

Artist Statement:

I am caressing my fiber creatures. While doing this I noticed how the still material can express directionality/movement just by touching, moving the threads. These pieces capture how the paint leaks, the color flows out, the rust spreads or the color splashes. These are abstractions expressing direction, movement by using different colors.

Daphne Vlassis (Canada)

Artist Statement:

I am a multidisciplinary artist who grew up in Europe and I reside in Canada. My practice is rooted in drawing, painting, and digital media, where I explore themes of rhythm found in nature, the human condition, music and urban/city life. I am fascinated by how rhythm exists everywhere in our environment and how these rhythmic systems regulate all spheres of our lives on a macro and micro scale. My work are my personal reflections and views of these rhythmic systems in contemporary life. I studied Philosophy and Art at the University of Toronto and York University and I hold a diploma in 3D Computer Animation. I have exhibited in Canada, USA and Greece.
